In all the controversy over the state budget’s negative effects on education, not enough attention has been focused on the value that the community college systems add to Arizona’s economy. A study just released showed former students of Maricopa Community Colleges added $7.3 billion in income to Arizona last year. It also said that all of the state’s community colleges combined delivered a $14.5 billion economic impact. The region’s workforce is not complete without employees trained in the skills community colleges provide. That should not go unnoticed in ongoing talks about educational needs in Arizona.
